Riots in Dar es Salaam

Apparently a Christian boy, arguing with his Muslim friend about which religion is better, peed onthe Holy Book of Koran. This was enough to shake the famous Tanzanian religious tolerance and people went to the streets. Five churches were burnt and 126 people arrested. We are not really sure what the consequences will be, but we are sure that the riots also served to vent the frustration of the poor and gave the government a chance to arrest some people it doesn`t like.

Takole izgleda za naso hiso... ker nas smetarji ze en mesec niso obiskali! Naceloma naj bi smeti odpeljali enkrat tedensko, ampak ponavadi pridejo enkrat na mesec, namrec takrat, ko nam izstavijo racun in poberejo denar. Poskusala sem se ze kregati z njimi in rekla, da jim placam le 1/4 denarja, ker so prisli le enkrat namesto stirikrat. Veste, kaj so mi odvrnili? Da odpeljejo vse moje smeti in ne le cetrtino, zato hocejo ves denar! Kaj naj clovek rece pri taksni logiki (se posebej, ce za hiso stoji velik oranzen smetnjak, v katerem se skriva za 120 l umazanih  plenic)? Ja, v Afriki je ponudnik kralj, kupec pa njegov ponizni sluga :)

Das Gute, wenn man in einem tropischen Land lebt, ist, dass man immer irgendwas ernten kann. Kokosnüsse kriegt man bekannterweise vom Baum indem man barfuß die Palme rauf klettert. So tun es wenigstens die Zanzibari Burschen :) Wenn man klettern nicht will oder kann, dann...

...kitzelt man die Nüsse mit einem langen Stock vom Baum.

Der neue Robinson Crusoe oder doch Tom Hanks?

Anschließend öffnet man sie mit einer Machete...

...und schon ist ein Drink für die Runde bereit :)

Bei Falk

Falk's Vermieterin hat sich entschieden, dass er ihr eine zu kleine Miete zahlt und hat ihn aus seinem tollen Haus am Strand rausgeworfen. Falk hat sich gedacht, er kontert und ...

...hat ein viel größeres und schöneres Haus am Strand gemietet, nur 5 min von dem 'alten' entfernt. Dort waren wir am Wochenende zu Gast.

Wir haben den Strand erforscht... 

... und die Sonne getankt (nein, eigentlich haben wir uns vor der Sonne versteckt :) 

Ohne Fischgrillen geht bei Falk gar nichts...

...und gesungen haben wir auch!

Und das beste: die Lucia hat die Gesellschaft von zwei anderen Mädchen genossen, die auf die Namen Kiga und Mboni hören. Sie sind erst 7 Wochen alt, können aber schon laufen und beißen :)

Es lebe der Sport

Die Lucia zieht zuerst das richtige Sportbody an und dehnt sich immer ausgiebig den Rücken...

...bevor es dann mit Stehübungen weiter geht.

Sie macht zwar bei Yoga mit...

... aber ihre echte Leidenschaft geht dem FLIEGEN!

Sunday afternoon

Sunday night was really difficult for us, Lucia could not sleep at all - even the night driving she and Stefan are doing from 5 to 6 am to help her settle down did not help. So we woke up to a Sunday morning all beat up and a bit depressed and I thought no way are we going to spend our Sunday in this black mood - lets hit the beach! Perhaps the Indian Ocean will relax our small queen - and it did! She fell asleep immediately and didn't even wake up when (thanks to my over-enthusiasm when walking in the sea) a huge wave came on to us and covered us all from head to toe in water, salt and sand. She screamed, opened her eyes, gave me a really angry look and went back to sleep. I also got an angry look from Stefan who had to chaffeur us back home while dripping with water :)

Stefan and the car have the early morning shift and make the streets of Dar es Salaam unsafe from 5 to 6 am

Die Lucia in Dar

Es ist jetzt schon wohl allen klar, dass der Fokus unseres Blogs sich etwas geändert hat. Was sind also die neuesten Neuigkeiten?

On one of our walks Lucia felt the first drops of African rain on her skin. She made big eyes and stuck her tongue out - I think she hoped that milk is raining from heaven!

People on the street are very interested in her. They always ask "Mtoto hajambo?" (Is the baby fine?) and they all want to know her name. When we meet young single men they add a "And where is the father?" to the standard questions, while the old ladies advise me to put her hat on, since it is cold and she might catch a flu (we sweat the hell out of our clothes, even though we usually go for a walk at 7 am). Yeah, it is still spring in Dar!

Nasvet s klobukom se morda slisi smesen, ampak Lucia se je ze popolnoma prilagodila tukajsnjemu podnebju. Kadar imamo zjutraj hladnih 27 stopinj, jo ze malce zebe in jo moramo pokriti z dekico!

V ponedeljek smo bili pri zdravnici in ugotovili, da Lucia tehta ze 6 kg! Tako ji je Stefan nadel ime Buda (Buda je tudi vedno naslikan z kar nekaj gubami mascobe). Sedaj torej uradno ime: Lucia Zuhura Buda Lintner :)

Papa freut sich wenig wenn er unter eine Decke schlafen muss!

Playstation v5.2

Fad darf einem Kind nie sein und so hat die Lucia jetzt eine Playstation bekommen. Die hat die Mama in einer freien Stunde gebastelt und jetzt heißt es: Greifen, Schauen, Lernen, Spaß haben!

Der Morgenstern

Lucia hat schon eine kleine Vorstellungsrunde geschafft.
Unsere Freundin Myriam hat ihr sofort ihr Gymnastikball zur Verfügung gestellt, damit die Mama hupfen kann und die Lucia ruhig einschlafen kann, auch wenn wir bei ihr und ihrem Mann Stefan auf Besuch sind.
Unsere Putzfrau Hawa nimmt sich jetzt jedes mal beim Kommen und Gehen 5 min Zeit und klatscht und tanzt mit Lucia.
Unser Freund Ralf hat sie gesegnet (er ist ein Priester).
Bei TRACE hat sie ihren Swahili Namen erhalten, der der Bedeutung von "Bringerin von Licht" ein bisschen entspricht: Zuhura oder der Morgenstern.

Die Dschungel zuhause

Nach vier Monaten ohne Zurückschneiden bin ich jetzt in eine regelrechte Dschungel zurückgekehrt. Unser Hof ist endlich mal grün - gut wegen dem Schatten, schlecht wegen Moskitos und Riesenspinnen. Unser Fikusbaum ist inzwischen gute 2m groß, aber den echten Erfolg feiern wir mit dem süß duftenden, zarten Frangipanibaum, der zum ersten mal blüht!

We rule the world

Lucia does not really appreciate yet how lucky she is to be getting Pampers diapers. Stefan and I were really surprised, after checking out the prices of about eight diaper types in our supermarket, most of them produced in South Africa, that Pampers were the cheapest! Another lesson in the monopoly that big corporations hold on products all over the world.

Of course, I don´t have to talk to any Tanzanian to know that most Tanzanian babies are NOT getting Pampers. With a good, solid paycheck of cca 250 EUR per month paying 70 EUR for diapers is not really an option!
