Kiswahili, to us, feels difficult to learn. But there are some things which indeed are easy...

Many modern words in Kiswahili are adopted from the English language. There seems to be one general rule: take an English word, add -i at the end and write it as you pronounce it - then you get the Kiswahili word.

For example:
television -> televisioni -> televisheni
car -> cari -> gari
bank -> banki -> benki
dance hall -> halli of danci -> holi ya dansi

... and here Stefan's favourite, an exeption to the rule: beer -> bia
