Things you can hit

In the Swahili language the verb to hit ("piga") is very popular. By adding things you hit to the verb you can express tens of actions...

For example, a still logical one would be: piga ngoma, "to hit a drum" = to drum

But then there are the funnier ones:

  • piga kelele, "to hit a noise" = to shout
  • piga simu, "to hit a phone" = to phone
  • piga picha, "to hit a picture" = to photograph
  • piga mswaki, "to hit a tootbrush" = to brush teeth

Feel like hitting a tootbrush today?
