Spring is in the air

Technically speaking, Dar es Salaam is now entering autumn, since it is before the cold season. But, in all honesty, it is difficult here to speak of a cold or a hot season and I think that every rainy season just signifies spring. Water is life and the temperature becomes bearable enough for creation of more life, as shown to us on every step by animals and plants...

I think people all over the world start working in their gardens in the spring. In Tanzania, this means especially cutting trees - but unlike in Europe, the process is really simple and kind of rough. You just take your average worker with a huge machete and hack the tree down until it barely has any branches left... The first time I saw it, I thought, these crazy Tanzanians, this tree will die for sure - but now I know that in six months' time the tree will grow back to its full size! So strong is the force of nature in the tropics that you really don't have to worry about cutting too much...
